Abstract
1. 1. The kinetics of urea metabolism have been studied in sheep ( Ovis aries), goats ( Capra hircus), calves ( Bos taurus), and camels ( Camelus dromedarius) fed a roughage diet containing 9.6% crude protein. 2. 2. The average urea concentration did not vary between species. 3. 3. No differences in the extent of endogenous urea degradation between sheep, goats and calves were found. 4. 4. The extent of urea degradation calculated on the basis of urea entry rate, dietary-N intake, or metabolic body weight was higher in the camels.
