Abstract

Data caching can remarkably improve the efficiency of information access in a wireless ad hoc network by reducing the access latency and bandwidth usage. Cache replacement policy plays a vital role to improve the performance in a cached mobile environment, since the amount of data stored in a client cache is small. In this paper we have made a comparative study of the existing cache replacement algorithms for wireless mobile networks .Cache replacement policies proposed for cooperative caching in ad hoc networks are also reviewed and attempts to classify existing replacement policies for ad hoc networks based on the replacement decision. In addition, this paper suggests some alternative techniques for cache replacement. Finally, the paper concludes with a discussion on future research directions.
