Abstract

With the increasing concerns for security, automate d systems for authorization and authentication have become enormously important in every sector today. There are many methods for p ersonal identification such as smart cards, PIN (pe rsonal Identification Number), passwords, etc. Regardless of the efficiency and ac curacy of these systems, these systems can be alway s be stolen, lost, forgotten, cracked, hacked, etc. And it is for this reason bio metric based authentication system have gained a lo t of importance worldwide. A biometric system is essentially a pattern-recogniti on system that recognizes a person based on a featu re vector derived from a specific physiological (face, iris, retina, voice, palm prin ts, hand geometry) or behavioral characteristic (si gnature, voice, keystroke pattern) that the person possesses. This system is more accu rate as these characteristics are unique for a part icular person and vary almost negligibly over time. In this paper we have present ed a comparative study of recent advances in biomet ric authentication based on mainly offline Hand-written signatures.
