Abstract
Summary Five strains of tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) were inactivated by three different antisera. All strains are related antigenically and fall into at least three distinct groups. These relationships are in basic harmony with those previously uncovered (1, 2). The masked and common strain of TMV can be distinguished by the inactivation method. The data suggest that the amino acids histidine and methionine probably are not involved in the antigenic structure associated with the nfectivity of Holmes' ribgrass.
