Abstract

The word ‘adjustment’ means making oneself fit the demands of the external world. The Human being can adapt themselves according to their environment and can also change their surroundings to suit them. Blindness always produces shock; it affects the child and his adjustment process as well as the parents and the family members. Visually impaired children are not well adjusted as sighted childrenand are not well accepted by their peers. Parental, Peer & Sibling attitude deficiently affect the adjustment process of blind children. This study will enable us to find out the more suitable setting for educating visually impaired children, in which they are socially, emotionally and academically well adjusted. The sample of present study consisted of 40 visually impaired adolescent children in the age group of 14–18 years. All students were divided into two groups. In which first group consisted of 20 students who were studying in special schools and second group consisted of 20 students who were studying in inclusive school. Adjustment inventory for school students developed by A.K.P. Sinha & R.P. Singh was adapted by the researchers. The finding of our study is concluded that blind adolescent students in both special and inclusive school are quite adjusted. It seems that they are not very well adjusted but there is no major difference found between the overall adjustment in special and inclusive school except emotional adjustment.
