Abstract

Travelling wave ultrasonic motors (TWUSM) experiences a growing interest due to features such as the high holding torque, high torque at low speeds and quiet operation for industrial applications. The speed control of TWUSM is carried out using techniques based on changing the frequency, amplitude and phase difference of the applied voltage. The dynamic speed characteristics of TWUSM vary depending on operating conditions. Changes of load values are caused by decrement or increment in the speed and fluctuations. In this simulation study, the speed control of TWUSM is discussed comparing the conventional PI controller, PID controller and Fuzzy logic controller (FLC) systems. In the speed and position control system, the FLC control at different operating conditions provided better performance comparing to conventional PI and PID controllers. The applications and validation of the proposed TWUSM control system are verified through simulations results using Matlab/Simulink.
