Abstract

Abstract A comparative study of Nd:doped YAG, SGGM, KGW, and GSGG laser crystals pumped by a Xe-gas filled flashlamp has been conducted in the input pulsed energy range of 1–8J at a repetition rate of 1 Hz. Based on the output energy measured at 1.06 micron, the laser performance of Nd:KGW and Nd:Cr:GSGG crystals are almost identical but much better than the Nd:YAG and Nd:SGGM rods at similar experimental conditions.
