Abstract

Mode-locked ruby laser spectroscopy has been used to investigate, in real time, the primary processes which occur in the excited states of a typical photoinitiator for polymerization of acrylic monomers in bulk and in micelle. Thus, the kinetic scheme of the photoinitiation processes in homogeneous and microheterogeneous media can be depicted. A general discussion of the initiation processes in the presence of benzophenone, 2,2-dimethoxy-2-phenylacetophenone and (4-sulpho methylphenyl) phenyl ethanedione sodium salt is presented.
