Abstract

4-Chloro-N-methylamphetamine (CMA) differs from its parent compound methylamphetamine (M; Pervitin, Methedrine) as regards effect on central monoamine metabolism, as regards effect on animal behaviour and as regards effect on depressive syndromes. According to the methods of experimental psychology it was investigated whether the effect of these two compounds also differs in healthy test subjects. Some tests did indeed demonstrate such a difference; other tests did not. It was considered whether this might furnish and indication that certain methylamphetamine effects take place irrespective of its effect on central catecholamine metabolism.
