Abstract

The structural characteristics useful for Chinese handwriting examination, and the styles and systems of Chinese handwriting are discussed. Its history, dating back some 3500 years, and the development of the Chinese character and its style are followed by an account of its elements, the stroke, radical and bushou. Finally, a description of system development is given, and the shortcomings of the examination of Chinese writing by the combination of an occidental document examiner and a linguist who can read ideographic characters are elaborated
