Abstract

A noticeable increase occurred in lower extremity amputations (LEAs) during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. A previous study from our institution showed that patients with acute limb ischemia (ALI) had presented with advanced ALI during the COVID-19 Massachusetts state of emergency (SOE). In the present study, we investigated patients who had undergone amputation for ALI during the SOE compared with the same period in 2019. We considered the socioeconomic elements, presentation delay, and medical comorbidities as risk factors leading to a greater incidence of LEAs during the SOE.
