Abstract

The paper investigates the influence of the modulation strategy on the generation of high frequency (HF) currents in modern electric drives. Firstly, HF current generation mechanisms are revised and related to key features of PWM modulation techniques. A comparative investigation on HF currents generated by three standard and three special modulation techniques is then experimentally performed on a 1.5 kW induction motor drive. Finally, useful guidelines to obtain the best compromise between HF currents amplitude and drive efficiency are carried out.
