Abstract

This paper presents the effect of robust distributed model predictive control (RDMPC) on load frequency control (LFC) for three-area multiple power systems and compared with other conventional model predictive controllers (MPC) such as centralized, decentralized, and distributed model predictive control (MPCs). Simulations are done to investigate the performance of the proposed controller in the presence of generation rate constraint (GRC). Results reveal that for a change in load, RDMPC gives a better dynamic performance of the power system by keeping the frequency, tie-line power and area control error (ACE) within the range. Hence, RDMPC shows robustness with good dynamic response of the system.
