Abstract

In this paper, a CPW-fed compact wideband concentric SRR-based metamaterial antenna is designed and proposed. The proposed antenna consists of three concentric split ring resonators (SRRs) and one closed ring resonator (CRR) meeting the various standard wireless frequency specifications such as 802.11 a/h/n/p/ac/ax, ISM band (5.8 GHz) and WiMAX. The designed antenna shows dual-band characteristics with first band resonant at 2.89 GHz while other band centered at 5.1 GHz with a percentage impedance bandwidths of 5.5% and 68.5% respectively. Impedance matching is achieved through tapered impedance transformer line and innermost SRR improves input reflection coefficient which helps to combine various resonant modes for obtaining wideband. The proposed antenna exhibits compact size with substrate dimensions of 25.3 × 27 × 1.6 mm3 and excellent radiation characteristics.
