Abstract

A design has been performed using compact dual band, planar, rectangular printed antenna for WLAN/WiMAX applications. The proposed antenna achieved dual frequency bands by loading modified SRR with inverted π shaped DGS. By using the defective ground plane with inverted π structure slot, the designed antenna resonates at dual frequencies. The first resonant frequency is shown at 3.5 GHz (in between the band 3.119 GHz - 4.13 GHz) with maximum return loss of -22.485 dB which is WiMAX frequency band. The second resonant frequency is shown at 5.8 GHz (in between the band 5.725 GHz -6.108 GHz) with maximum return loss of -15.6 dB which is WLAN frequency band. These bands are assigned to the IEEE 802.11a/b/g and IEEE 802.16e standards. The proposed design of antenna is fabricated with a compact size of 30 mm x 30 mm. The patch antenna is designed as per required standards for WLAN and WiMAX and its return loss and VSWR plots are admitted. CST Microwave Studio is considered for designing with slotted partial ground, stairs and stubs and optimization. Special configuration has been performed to get better results.
