Abstract

This paper reports on a compact magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system for measuring small samples. This system comprises micro gradient coils, a precise positioning mechanism, and a micro radio-frequency (RF) coil for measuring MRI signal. Since the micro coils were fabricated by assembling flexible polyimide/Cu substrate to 3D-printed jigs, the coil wiring of the micro RF coil and micro gradient coils exhibit spatially high positional accuracy. Therefore, the micro RF coil has a high sensitive area with high uniformity, and the micro gradient coils have high gradient magnetic field efficiencies with high linearity. Thus, this system enabled obtaining high-resolution MRI images of small samples.
