Abstract

In this paper, a novel compact patch antenna with dual-band and low-profile characteristics is presented. With the usage of near-field resonant parasitic (NFRP) element, a second operational frequency, which is much lower than the fundamental operational frequency of radiating patch, is produced, and thus its dual-band characteristic is accomplished. Moreover, the original operational bandwidth from the patch, is well expanded, due to its combination with the 3rd resonant mode from the NFRP element. The relatively stable broadside radiation performance characteristics, and high radiation efficiencies were observed in the dual-band operational frequency ranges.
