Abstract
A novel design of a compact dual frequency microstrip antenna is proposed for Ku-band applications. A square patch with two inverted L shape slots and aperture coupled feeding is used. The 4 mm by 4.15 mm dimensions of this patch lead to a compact antenna structure. The comparative results from CST and HFSS show that the return loss of about −18 dB was achieved at 11.5 GHz and 14 GHz. In spite of its compact size, this antenna has a gain of over 6 dB at both frequency bands. The FR-4 substrate also results in a lower cost of construction.
