Abstract
A low-profile disc-slit monopole antenna with a meander-line feed is proposed for modern mobile devices having a wireless local-area network (WLAN) module along with a Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) function. The proposed antenna is compact in size, provides sufficient impedance-matching bandwidths, possesses nearly dipole-like antenna patterns, and shows insensitivity to size variations in its feed ground. A prototype of the antenna was constructed and is shown. Measured and simulated results were obtained to demonstrate the promising performance required for practical uses.
