Abstract

A compact band-notched ultra-wideband (UWB) slot antenna based on mesh-grid structures is designed. A genetic algorithm (GA) is used to optimize the mesh-grid structures on both the ground plane and the patch to obtain band-notched characteristic in the UWB band. The optimized antenna has a compact size of 24mm×28mm×1mm. Simulated results have shown that the designed antenna has a bandwidth, defined by VSWR<;2, ranging from 3 to 11 GHz and a good band-notched performance in the 5 GHz WLAN band. Moreover, it exhibits nearly omnidirectional radiation patterns and stable gain across the operating band.
