Abstract

A four element ultra-wideband antenna is proposed and investigated for MIMO applications. This antenna is compact in terms of overall size and separation between the antenna elements. Four UWB monopole antennas are aligned to four sides of a rectangular substrate giving rise to orthogonal diversity between the adjacent sides. The isolation between the antennas is increased by placing the ground stubs. All the four antennas cover the entire band of interest with |S11|>10 dB and good isolation (|S21|=|S41|>15 dB and |S31|>20 dB) between the ports is achieved. The radiation and diversity performance of the proposed antenna system well satisfies the requirements of a four port MIMO communication system. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
