Abstract

On the basis of an exactly diagonalizable linearized polaron model, it is shown that the trial wave function proposed by Larsen does not yield the exact energy in the asymptotic high magnetic field limit. Although the application of the Feynman path-integral treatment to a polaron in a magnetic field does not guarantee an upper limit for the ground state energy, Larsen's treatment does not provide an exact counterexample.
