Abstract

Janine Beichman is a translator and scholar of Japanese literature whose publications include biographies of the poets Masaoka Shiki and Yosano Akiko, and the original Noh play Drifting Fires. She received the 2019–2020 Japan–United States Friendship Commission Prize for the Translation of Japanese Literature for Beneath the Sleepless Tossing of the Planets (Kurodahan Press), her translations of the poetry of Ōoka Makoto.
