Abstract
AbstractThe flammability limits of the gaseous pyrolysates obtained from a series of conventional, flame‐retarded, and high‐performance textile fabrics have been measured, and the results compared. These data have been utilized to develop a fire hazard index associated with the ignitability and combustibility of the gaseous products of thermal degradation as a result of exposure to a high radiative thermal fire load. Generally, it was found that the high‐performance fabrics behaved better than the flame‐retarded fabrics, which themselves were superior to untreated materials.
