Abstract

Compared with the actuator applied in vacuum circuit breakers of middle-voltage power system, the actuator used in high-voltage power system has much longer stroke. This difference limits the traditional actuator of middle-voltage vacuum circuit breakers to be used in high-voltage power system because the dynamic performance cannot be well satisfied. This paper proposes a novel permanent magnet actuator (PMA) for 126kV vacuum circuit breakers with auxiliary flux weakening coils. The proposed PMA can decrease the holding force in the open and closed positions, shorten the time of operation and decrease operating power. The electromagnetic performance is calculated using finite element method. The simulated results show that the proposed PMA has excellent work performance, meeting the requirements of high-voltage vacuum circuit breakers.
