Abstract

A new combination of stainless steel wire screens was designed for simulating the deposition characteristics of aerosol in human respiratory tract. The aerosol penetration through wire screens was calculated by the fan model of filtration theory, and the deposition was obtained. The reference value of aerosol deposition in the respiratory tract was calculated with lung dose evaluation program (LUDEP copy ). In general, the deviation between the deposition fraction of attached aerosol on the wire screens and its reference value in the respiratory tract is not more than 5% in both indoor and mine environment, and the deposition fraction contributed to the tracheobronchial (T-B) regions by unattached aerosol is negligible. Therefore, the new combination of wire screens is considered as an effective way to simulate the deposition characteristics of aerosol in respiratory tract. Moreover, this study would be very helpful for designing a new type of portable bronchial dosimeter in the future.
