Abstract

ABSTRACT A preliminary color-magnitude (CM) diagram is obtained for NGC 6553, one of the most strong-lined globular clusters known. The diagram shows features characteristic of other metalrich globular clusters. The position in the CM diagram of an RR Lyrae star spatially superimposed on the cluster suggests that it is a member. A tentative distance modulus for NGC 6553 of(m- M)0 = i 0.3 is derived. Key words: globular cluster - photometry
