Abstract

A method is described for the determination of cholinesterase in small samples of whole blood. Drops of blood diluted in substrate solution are placed on a Noble agar gel containing bromthymol blue. Readings are made by judging the color produced. The method was compared with an electrometric technique and found to be adequate as a fast screening technique. Erythrocyte and plasma cholinesterases can be differentiated by using either acetylcholine or Mecholyl as substrate.
