Abstract

In spread spectrum systems, many pseudo-random numbers with good properties are required. In such systems, linear feedback shift register (LFSR) sequences have been often used. We use Chebyshev bit sequences as spread spectrum sequences, generated by one-dimensional nonlinear ergodic chaotic maps primarily because they are sequences of i.i.d. (independent and identically distributed) binary random variables. Our evaluation of their performances suggests that a color image communication system using YIQ signals is better than RGB signals based on SS techniques. It implies that i.i.d. properties of chaotic binary sequences (Chebyshev bit sequences) of variable-period is fully utilized.
