Abstract

Abstract A collaborative study was made on the analysis of benzoic acid and salicylic acid. The acids were separated by trapping salicylic acid on a ferric chloride-urea column and benzoic acid on a sodium bicarbonate column. Average recoveries were 101.9 ± 3.3% and 101.8 ± 3.0% salicylic acid and 100.5 ± 1.8% and 100.6 ± 1.8% benzoic acid for a liquid and solid sample, respectively. The method is recommended for adoption as official, first action.
