Abstract

A cognitive/behavioral treatment program for flight phobia with 6 months' and 2 years' follow-up.A study of cognitive/behavioral treatment program for 83 subjects with flight phobia, with follow-up studies after 6 months and 2 years, is presented. The mean age was 41 years, and 51% were female. According to the Symptom Check List 90 scores, the subjects were psychiatrically healthy. The subjects were treated in groups of 12 for 3 1/2 h once a week for 6 weeks. Lectures about various topics related to flying were given by professionals. A psychiatrist conducted a group session each day followed by progressive relaxation. The subjects were taken on a flight in a cockpit simulator and were given demonstrations in the control tower and the radar room. At the end of the program a three-lag domestic (light was undertaken, each lag lasting 20-30 min.
