Abstract

The use of Serious Games (SGs) for education is the latest trend and an important opportunity to improve education, providing the students with realistic and immersive simulations of real-time environments. This paper presents an enhanced model for design and development of serious educational games that integrates pedagogical and game design aspects together along with the role distribution of the actors (e.g. teachers, game designers, developers, students) involved in the development process. Development of educational games not only requires extensive knowledge of the learning objectives but also the ability to make the game fun and engaging activity for the students. This paper also highlights some of the important issues faced while development which needs to be analyzed to support the research in SG development. We believe that our research work would help other researchers and game developers to understand the design process and the related issues to develop better serious educational games to aid teaching in schools.
