Abstract
Sylvester's matrix equation is of importance in several branches of applied mathematics, notably control theory. Various recent papers deal with aspects of its solution, both by numerical and analytical techniques. It is here proposed to provide a solution by giving a closed‐form formula for the inverse of the nivellateur.
