Abstract

This paper presents a simple formula for localization of a magnetic dipole. Firstly, the analytical formula of position vector is directly derived from the analytical expressions of magnetic field vector and magnetic gradient tensor of magnetic dipole. Secondly, the analytical formula shows that the proposed linear algorithm can give the true position of the dipole regardless of the singularity of the magnetic gradient tensor matrix. Finally, numerical simulations show that the proposed localization formula is correct and it can also localize the magnetic dipole precisely for applications with measurement noise.
