Abstract
The field of metabolic disease is a rapidly growing one in which reference data changes relatively often. This book is aimed at general physicians and trainees and does not attempt an exhaustive review of all known metabolic disease, something that would require a text of considerably greater dimension. The author concentrates on practical information dividing the book into sections that cover broad aspects of metabolic dysfunction and not single diseases. Following a general introduction, in which the principles of metabolic disease are discussed, Dr Clark concentrates on categories and particular patterns of presentation. There are sections dealing with neurological, hepatic and cardiac syndromes as well as metabolic acidosis and storage disorders. There are also chapters dealing with screening, laboratory investigation and treatments.
