Abstract
The mattress and pump unit weigh less than 15 kg, making the system portable and suitable for use on all wards in the hospital. The mattress cover is autoclavable to aid infection control and is waterproof, but vapour permeable, for patient comfort. The operating controls are simple with a 'clock face' setting mechanism for the pressure distributor system. METHODOLOGY The evaluation was carried out under the terms of a written protocol. Prior to commencement, safety inspections were undertaken and an indemnity form obtained.
