Abstract
An isospectral problem is established by means of a sub-algebra of loop Lie algebra A1, from which the coupled AKNS–Kaup–Newell soliton hierarchy is derived. Subsequently, the integrable expanding model, i.e. integrable coupling, is constructed through enlarging the corresponding loop algebra into the loop Lie algebra A2.
