Abstract

In some area of catfish retina there is a class of (hyperpolarizing) amacrine cells whose dendritic field is elongated along the fish's horizontal view. The cells' receptive-field profile is welldefined and biphasic (depolarizing-hyperpolarizing) along the fish's vertical field of view whereas it is poorly defined along the horizontal field of view. This class of amacrine cell is the most distal neuron whose receptive field is circularly asymmetric.
