Abstract

The torque required to keep a vane rotating in a fluid is made the subject of a class experiment illustrating the use of dimensional analysis for economical presentation of measurements. Twenty-five different combinations of parameters can be studied simultaneously, and the results presented on a single graph expressing the torque on large and small vanes in air, water and various grades of oil.
