Abstract

ABSTRACTThe Journal Citation Reports for both the Science Citation Index and Social Sciences Citation Index for 1991 were used to perform a citation analysis of Australian science and social science journals. It was found that the Australian journals cited overseas journals at a significantly higher rate than they were cited by these journals, and that Australian journals were cited predominantly by other Australian journals. They also showed a high rate of self citation. On the basis of impact factors, the most highly ranked Australian journals were Reproduction Fertility and Development (ranked 858 out of 4 292) for the sciences, and Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry (ranked 402 of 1 380) for the social sciences. The analyses reported in this article were supported by funding through the Borchardt Library, La Trobe University.
