Abstract

Nearly all neurons contain a primary cilium, but little is known about how this compartment contributes to neuromodulatory signaling. In a new study, Sheu etal. use cutting-edge electron microscopy and fluorescence imaging techniques to reveal a new type of synapse that enables chemical transmission between serotonergic axons and the primary cilia of hippocampal neurons.
