Abstract

The city is similar to a magnetic field that attracts, gathers, and concentrates men. “Magnets” cities were called that way because they have attractions that led the population from the countryside to the urban space. Inserted in this context, the Pau dos Ferros city, located in Rio Grande do Norte, presents characteristics of a centralized location that has been adding, over time, a set of spatial objects that transform it into a hierarchical region. Given this premise, this work has aims to realize a spatial analysis in a neighborhood of Pau dos Ferros/RN, to ascertain which are the urban elements that act as a magnet, which attract and gather the collectivity, based on the Rolnik (1995) theory. To evaluate this scenario was realized a survey of secondary data through a theoretical foundation by authors who approach the city’s relation in a local/regional context, and then were made visits in the chosen neighborhood of the city mentioned for analysis of the main components of the local that have attractive characteristics. Thereby, it was verified that the main urban objects in the study area that have attractiveness were the Free Fair, Mother Church, Public Market, and the Mall since they concentrate cultural, religious, and economic elements in a single place. The study proves the relevance of the expansion of capitalism’s production and circulation processes, through a spatial analysis in a cutting area in the city in question, to contribute to the scientific and social sphere.
