Abstract

Sorption and diffusion of O 2, N 2, CH 4, CO 2, cyclo-C 3H 6, and cis-C 4H 8 in commercial 5A zeolite has been studied chromatographically. Equilibrium constants and heats of sorption are in satisfactory agreement with previously reported gravimetrically measured values. Dispersion of the chromatographic response for O 2, N 2, CH 4, and CO 2 is controlled mainly by axial dispersion with some contribution from macropore diffusion but for cyclo-C 3H 6 and cis-C 4H 8 intracrystalline diffusional resistance is dominant. Intracrystalline diffusivities for these species are in reasonable agreement with the extrapolation of lower temperature gravimetric values.
