Abstract

Synopsis Chloritoid has been identified in the Macduff Slates immediately to the north of the Insch ‘Younger Basic’ mass, Aberdeenshire, where the mineral forms during the post-F 2 /pre-F 3 episode of Buchan regional metamorphic recrystallisation. Host rock composition is the principal control over the occurrence of the relatively pressure insensitive chloritoid-bearing assemblage (chloritoid–chlorite–phengitic muscovite–quartz–opaques) in a low pressure (P of the order of 3 kb) facies series for these rocks.
