Abstract

A laboratory on wheels has been demonstrated to be a practical way of conducting experimental studies with children. Since it can be hauled anywhere, normal and deviant children of all ages are accessible for observation. Compared with the other ways of obtaining subjects (for example, having parents bring their children to a clinic, establishing and maintaining laboratory schools, or going to a school or institution and seeing children under make-shift conditions), observing children at the sources of supply in a trailer is a relatively simple, inexpensive, and flexible method. Furthermore, a unit of this type has the advantages of a laboratory in a building, i.e., observations may be made under relatively constant conditions, and apparatus for controlling conditions and recording responses may be used with convenience.
