Abstract

A first checklist on the Pteridophytes (ferns and fern-allies) of Uttar Pradesh in India is provided, along with a brief review on the biogeography, climatic conditions, and literature on pteridophytes of the State. A total of 59 species (49 ferns, 10 fern-allies) belonging to 14 families and 4 subfamilies known so far from the province, based on 3,000 herbarium specimens deposited in the National Botanical Research Institute (LWG) herbaria, as well as 325 specimens collected by the authors, are enumerated. Of the 49 species of ferns, Microlepia speluncae, Lygodium japonicum , and Adiantum edgeworthii are new records.
