Abstract

The accuracy of camera calibration depends a large extent on the corner detection accuracy. Thus, the checkerboard corner detection plays a fundamental role in the checkerboard based camera calibration. In this paper, we present a checkerboard corner detection method utilizing the specific frequency amplitudes of the boundary sequence at the checkerboard corner, which involves a coarse-to-fine strategy. The sub-pixel coordinates of corners are also calculated for higher accuracy. Experiment results with real images show that the method is capable of achieving high detection accuracy, hence providing reliable preprocessed data for high resolution camera calibration.
