Abstract

We present a cell electroporation and viability monitoring chip using a single channel with multiple electric field zones. Previous electroporation chips have complex structures due to the multiple microchannels or electrodes. The present electroporation chip, however, achieves multiple electric field zones with simple structure using a single microchannel. A cell electroporation and viability monitoring chip has been designed, fabricated, and characterized. The experimental study demonstrates that the electroporation chip is capable of finding the optimum conditions for stable cell transfection with high viability. The optimum electric field for human lung cancer cell, H23 was 0.4kV/cm with the viable and electroporated cells of 51.4±3.0%. The present chip has potential for use in the integrated cell chips for transfection study.
