Abstract

Recent interest has been focused on integrated circuits to provide a signal processing and multiplexing capability for large pyroelectric detector arrays. The authors describe the design and operation of an integrated CCD multiplexer that is bonded directly to an array of pyroelectric detectors to form a large thermal imaging array. A brief description of the operation of pyroelectric detectors is presented. The design and operation of a novel input technique for the interface and a brief theoretical analysis of the input is discussed. Details of the signal processing at the output is given, and various noise sources are discussed and related to a noise-equivalent temperature difference.
