Abstract

The cauliflower-like CoAl-Sal layered double hydroxide (CoAl-Sal LDH) is synthesized by a hydrothermal method, which is befitting for massive production. By optimizing the electrochemical conditions, it only needs a low overpotential of 420 mV to reach a current density of 50 mA cm−2 for CoAl-Sal LDH catalyst, surpassing most of the LDHs-based OER catalysts currently reported under the same neutral condition. The resulting CoAl-Sal LDH catalyst not only shows noticeable water oxidation ability, but also reveals sturdy catalytic behavior without a disintegration in oxygen evolution reaction throughout 1 h of testing at neutral pH. The commodious preparation procedure and conspicuous electrocatalytic capability show the great charm of CoAl-Sal LDH to supersede the noble metal-based electrocatalysts toward oxygen evolution.
